Remember to relax

The biggest thing I see in new ATV riders is tension. "You have to relax!" I say to them as they have their shoulders up to their ears and a death grip on the handle bars. It's not going to help you, it will only make you sore later.

So here is the trick. Remember to relax, and absorb the bumps with your arms loose and your back flexible. If your arms are locked its going to make the bumps seem like mountains! Give yourself a break and just chill. You have to steer, of course, but you don't have to be nervous about it.

Sit forward on the seat so you are closer to the handle bars, try to have your arms at a slightly bent angle at the elbow, and sit up straight, but let your lower back flex to absorb the bumps. This will put your center of gravity right above the machine and make the ride very enjoyable.

If you find yourself tensing up again, just stop for a minute and take a break, you have to be one with the machine. You are telling it where to go, and it takes orders from you. A little tip from the Quad Squad to help beginning riders feel more comfortable! Rocky on Quad Riders.
