This trail up to Bill Moore alpine lake is mostly difficult with rocky terrain, but very fun with stream crossings and several old cabins. One of the old cabins on the Empire loop portion of the trail is called the "Empire Hilton" and is a functioning cabin with bare amenities for shelter and warmth. The main trail going up Bill Moore Lake can be a 1/2 day venture. Adding the empire loop and stopping to look at the cabins will make a day trip of it.
